Turku University of Applied Sciences develops students, technologies, businesses and the Southwest region of Finland

An innovative and multidisciplinary higher education institution, which creates international competitiveness and wellbeing for Southwest Finland, Turku University of Applied Sciences is an inspiring community of 10,000 members consisting partly of graduates who are practice-oriented and highly competent professionals.

Studies at Turku University of Applied Sciences (TUAS) are working life-oriented, combining theoretical studies with professional skills. At the core of our teaching is ‘Innovation Pedagogy’ (Innopeda®), a novel approach to learning developed at TUAS.

Innopeda is a learning method based on experimenting, sharing and combining different approaches, successfully linking teaching, RDI, internationality, and co-operation with working life. Innopeda emphasises the viewpoints of RDI and working life, making our graduates independently minded professionals with excellent international and communication skills.

We provide high quality and flexible training and consulting services for both individuals and organisations in the public and private sectors.

TUAS can be counted among the top academic institutions in Finland, co-ordinating or acting as a partner in more than 200 RDI projects each year.

Co-operation in health and technology

Health Campus Turku is a significant multidisciplinary education cluster within medicine and healthcare. Consisting of four higher education institutions and a university hospital, Health Campus offers an inspiring operating environment for studies, research, innovation and corporate collaboration.

The co-operation involves:

  • Turku University of Applied Sciences,
  • The Hospital District of Southwest Finland,
  • The University of Turku,
  • Åbo Akademi University, and
  • Novia University of Applied Sciences.

All these institutions promote shared RDI, education, innovation and business activities with the objective of developing interdisciplinary expertise in line with the targets of the health and social services reform.

Turku Future Technologies strengthens technological co-operation

TUAS also contributes to the Turku Future Technologies (TFT) co-operation with the aim of strengthening both the technological expertise and prestige of Finland’s oldest city by enabling our students to complete practical training and thesis work in collaboration with regional businesses, as well as with officials in the City of Turku and the City of Rauma.

  • Competence-based degrees and a learning continuum that includes working life and life-long learning development;
  • Our learning environments consist of our working life partners, state-of-the-art laboratories and exercise premises which double as our students’ workplaces and are used and developed in co-operation with working life. We aim to make traditional, lecture-based classroom teaching a thing of the past;
  • The special role of the Salo IoT Campus is to act as a test platform for our own learning methods;
  • Staff and students share common values and have a collegial relationship, working in a multidisciplinary manner in our regional, national and international networking environment;
  • Empowering leadership and an inspiring operational environment which supports creativity and joint competence.
